ABOUT FOUNDERS HOUSE
In 1966 a hostel, named Founders House (in honour of the 110 founder boarders) was established on campus. Our capacity allows for us to serve up to 120 boarders. These small numbers contribute to a strong family-like sense of togetherness and allow for our staff to cater to the individual needs of the boys and girls on a personal level. We provide boarding facilities for BOTH boys and girls, making us one of the only co-ed boarding schools in Pietermaritzburg.
The superintendent and our several resident staff maintain strict discipline at Founders House and play a fundamental role in shaping the young boarders into responsible young adults, while ensuring a homely atmosphere for them to thrive in.
Our boarders are given many opportunities for recreation and self-development. In the summer the boys and girls have access to our recently reconditioned pool and swimming instructors, as well as our 4 hectares of playing fields and garden. Soccer, rugby, cricket, hockey, basketball and netball are all possible options for our students to explore. They also enjoy access to the school's well-stocked library and computer facilities.
Besides sports and culture activities, our students also have unique opportunities to grow and develop as leaders. The Founders House has its own internal leadership structures. Seniors are well respected and a Head Boarder Prefect is chosen each year to bear numerous leadership responsibilities within the House.
