Founders House
In 1966 Founders House (in honour of the 110 founder boarders) was opened on campus. The BE – as it is fondly known- provides facilities for up to 120 boarders, boys and girls, making us one of the only co-ed boarding schools in Pietermaritzburg.
The superintendent and our resident staff maintain strict discipline at Founders House and play a fundamental role in shaping the young boarders into responsible young adults, while ensuring a homely atmosphere for them to thrive in. The small numbers contribute to a strong family-like sense of togetherness and allow for our staff to cater to the individual needs of the boys and girls on a personal level.
Our boarders are given many opportunities for recreation and self-development. They are encouraged to participate in the various sport and cultural activities offered by the school. During evening functions at school the boarders may offer to assist with giving directions and serving refreshments to parents and visitors. They also enjoy access to the school’s well-stocked library and computer facilities.
Founders House has its own internal leadership structures. Seniors are given the opportunity of mentoring younger boarders and thus develop their own leadership skills. Each year a Head of House is chosen and is responsible for leadership and setting an example of good conduct to all boarders.
